Need for ILO and tripartite partners stressed at 99th ILC

main

In a speech made at the 99 th International Labor Conference on June 14 th(ILO, Geneva), Labor Minister, Yim Tae-hee, stressed the importance of job creation, saying, “Creating more jobs can enhance the rights of workers as scarcity of human resources leads to better treatment of workers.” He also proposed that ILO and tripartite parties should make concerted efforts to provide jobs to jobless people and better jobs to those already in employment.

Given the current situation in which with the integration of the global economy, countries are facing common labor market problems, he asked the ILO Secretariat to continue its efforts in documenting and analyzing member countries’ employment policies and to spread the best practices.

“In order to minimize the hardship of the most vulnerable group, the Korean government has placed employment on the top priority of its national agenda and is redirecting its resources in this regard and pursuing market-driven demand-oriented policy,” said Labor Minister Yim. “The labor and management in Korea are working together towards productive industrial relations.”

Minister Yim went to Losanne Hotel School in Switzerland to look at the vocational school system in the advanced country. On his way back he is going to visit Mongolia to talk with the Prime Minister of Mongolia about current issues of concern to both countries, including exchanges of human resources under the Employment Permit System and other cooperation measures.
