The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs will install Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) on the vessels of ROK Navy Task Group Chung Hae, which will be dispatched this April to convoy and protect Korean vessels from pirate attacks in the Gulf of Aden.
VMS is the latest system that traces and manages the locations of Korean vessels sailing through the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean via electronic charts and enables two-way communication through GICOMS.
With the installation of VMS, Chung Hae vessels will be able to promptly respond to sudden pirate attacks and kidnappings of seafarers based on vessel positioning data and will build a real-time response scheme with the Ministry of Land, Transport
and Maritime Affairs to prevent or minimize any damage incurred by piracy.
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs will continue to upgrade and expand the installation of VMS to increase the accuracy of vessel positions and prevent any pirate attack.
