Venture Capitals' Management Activities Improved

main

SMBA revealed that as a result of an evaluation it conducted this year regarding the management and investment activities of 81 venture capitals, their investment capabilities have improved on the whole.

To upgrade the management and transparency of venture capitals, SMBA has been conducting an evaluation in five areas, including management status, organization of investment unions and operating performance.

SMBA's evaluation results for this year indicated that venture capitals have improved significantly, featuring increases in firms of 'A' grade and above and decreases in firms of lower grades in comprehensive credit ratings.

The improvements attributed to fact that while organizations of investment unions expanded following the slowdown of the recent financial crisis and recovery in the investment environment, the number of E-grade companies, whose ratings were withheld due to capital encroachment, sharply decreased.

Recipients of A⁺ grade were STIC Investment, Atinum Investment, Korea Investment Partners, LB Investment and CJ Venture Investment.

Furthermore, in all areas, management status, organization of unions, operating performance, transparency and risk management, the ratio of A grade firms was higher compared with last year.

Owing to increases in investment activities and business performance, their financial health improved significantly, and 31 venture capitals, including UTC Investment, Alpine Technology Investment and CJ Venture Investment, were rated as A grade in the management status area.

With domestic financial and venture investment markets stabilizing, organization of unions also significantly improved, and 22 venture capitals received A grade in this area, including Korea Investment Partners, Hanwha Venture Capital and MVP Venture Capital.

In operating manpower, venture capitals' manpower management level improved, including a decrease in job separation rate to 0.28% from 0.35% in 2009 and A grade venture capitals numbered 23, including Korea Investment Partners, CJ Venture Investment and TongYang Investment.

In the transparency and risk management areas, investment operating system, operation of an investment screening committee and a systemized conflict of interest & moral hazard prevention system, 35 firms received A grade, including CJ Venture Investment, SV Venture Capital and TongYang Investment.
